Columbia Container Foreshore Expansion
Project Description
Columbia Containers is constructing a modern, efficient, and compact transloading facility to replace their aging grain elevator at a new location on their property on Burrard Inlet. The project also involves installing three new grain storage silos to replace existing containers. The project requires adjusting the retaining wall on the Burrard Inlet foreshore approximately 20 feet to the north, allowing a slight shift of the building infrastructure northward toward the water, accommodating the new Commissioner Street alignment as part of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority South Shore Corridor Project.
Our Role
Roe completed a Habitat Offsetting Plan for foreshore expansion works, which included identifying project impacts, habitat restoration, and enhancement. This plan was submitted to and approved by Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Additionally, Roe developed a construction and offsetting monitoring plan, a riparian replanting plan, conducted a surf smelt assessment, and acted as liaison with the proponent and regulatory bodies.
